A platform for exchange to accelerate the energy transition in West Africa
High-level debates with international and regional experts
Professor at the Gaston Berger University of Saint-Louis (SENEGAL). He graduated from the University of Rennes 1 (FRANCE) with a master’s degree and a doctorate in microelectronics. He has 30 years of experience in the field of applied sciences and technology as a teacher and researcher, first at the Faculty of Science (Abdou Moumouni University of Niamey, NIGER) and since 2004 at the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology, Gaston Berger University (SENEGAL). Its research activities have since focused on the characterization, modelling and simulation of the behaviour of electronic components and devices as well as photovoltaic cells and systems. In recent years, he has conducted various studies on silicon solar cells to help improve their performance, which is heavily dependent on, among other things, phenomenological parameters that influence electrical parameters. Also works on the influence of climatic parameters on the behavior of solar panels. The main objective is to understand the behaviour of photovoltaic panels in Sahelian environments and to contribute to the definition of appropriate qualification standards.
Robert Zierold studied (Medical) Physics at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and completed his diploma thesis at the Max Planck Institute in Halle. He earned his PhD with distinction at the University of Hamburg and became a permanent senior faculty member in 2015, leading the Bio-Materials Team in Professor Blick’s group. His research focuses on atomic layer processing for nano- and microstructures in superconductivity, photocatalysis, and photonic crystals. Moreover, he and his research team are exploring tailored nanostructures for artificial cell culture substrates, neuronal network formation, and innovative detectors for heat spots and for application in protein mass spectrometry.
Cheikh Mouhamed Fadel KEBE is currently a research professor at the École polytechnique supérieure de l'université Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD) in Dakar where he developed strong skills in pedagogical engineering through the creation of several academic courses within the framework of LMD. It teaches energy efficiency and renewable energies in the context of the energy transition. Member of the Laboratory for Energy, Water, Environment and Industrial Processes (LE3PI), he was also director of the National Incubator for Innovative Enterprises (INNODEV) for 10 years. Expert assessor for ANAQ-SUP and senior consultant in the energy sector for the Centre for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) of the Economic Community of West African Countries (ECOWAS). He is involved or has been involved in several international projects: QESAMED, AFREQEN, the World Bank’s ACE-Impact project, etc. He is very involved in expert networks as president of the Solar Systems Test Center (CT2S), Chairman of the Senegalese Metrology Association (ASMET) and Vice-President of the African Metrology Committee (CAFMET).
Dr. Mourad Boutahir is an Associate Professor at Ecole Normale Supérieure and Head of the Advanced Materials and Energy Transition (MATE) Research Team of the Advanced Materials and Applications Laboratory (LEM2A) of Moulay Ismail University, located in Meknès, Morocco. He obtained his Ph.D. in Nanomaterials and Energy from the University Moulay Ismail in 2017, with a thesis titled “Study of the Physics of Nanomaterials Based on Dyes,” which received high honors from the jury. His academic journey includes a Master’s degree in Materials Physics and Modeling (2013) and a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Physics (2011) from the Faculty of Sciences at the same university. Dr. Boutahir’s professional experience spans various roles, including a post-doctoral position at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) from 2019 to 2020, and teaching appointments in computer science and mechanics at Ecole Supérieure de Technologie, Meknès, from 2017 to 2019. He has also undertaken research internships, including one at the University of Porto through the ERASMUS+ program from 2016 to 2017, enriching his expertise in nanomaterials and related fields.
Amsata Ndiaye is a Professor at the Gaston Berger University (UGB) in Saint-Louis; Senegal. Special adviser to the Rector/President of the Gaston Berger University, he is a specialist in the field of renewable energies. Director of the Ousmane Seck Computing Center (CCOS) in 2020, Professor was also the President of the Organizing Committee of the West African Conference on Renewable Energies (WACRE 2020). It has had to pilot, in collaboration with partners, projects relating to renewable energy as a pillar of sustainable development such as the LoSENS project at UGB. Amsata Ndiaye is a PhD of Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (Senegal).
Mmantsae Moche Diale received her B.Sc. (education) in physics and mathematics from the University of the Northwest (Mafikeng), with a specialization in physics from Sefako Makgatho University. The master’s thesis entitled "A study of silicide formation using Ta markers" was supervised by Professor Craig Comrie of the University of Cape Town and Professor JW Mayer of Arizona State University (USA). The diploma was awarded with distinction, following a publication in Applied Physics Letters entitled "Cobalt self-diffusion during cobalt silicide formation", to MEDUNSA. The thesis entitled "Schottky barrier diode fabrication on n-GaN for ultraviolet detection" was awarded by the University of Pretoria after three publications, under the supervision of Professor Danie Auret. Post-doctoral studies with Prof Auret followed up on ZnO defect studies using DLTS and LDLTS, in collaboration with Prof Francis Ling of the University of Hong Kong. Current research in Diale’s laboratory focuses on the conversion of solar energy from materials development to appliance manufacturing
Rabani Adamou is a Professor of Physical Chemistry focusing on Applied Photochemistry at Abdou Moumouni University (UAM). He is currently the Director of the PhD-Program in Climate Change and Energy (DRP-CCE) of the West African Science Service Center in Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL). For the past years he has concentrated his efforts on surface and groundwater pollution and remediation, water and energy research activities for sustainable rural transformation, the evaluation of the use of local materials in engineering and solar energy (hybrid-photovoltaic, DSSCs), Prof. Rabani has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and serves as reviewer in outstanding journals.
